Resistance Gallery wishes you all a very happy Xmas and a hemp bound new year!!
This year has been a roller-coaster ride of epic proportions but it doesn't stop yet...the die hard team here at Res Gal HQ are furiously beavering away for next years massive forthcoming events and attractions!
One of which, most notably, is the next London Festival of the Art of Japanese Bondage.
Last years inaugural festival was a huge hit both here and over seas, and were planning on making next years one even more lavish, informative, bolder and fun!
The emphasis is on the art of kinbaku or shibari as it is known, with workshops, seminars, performances, films, paintings, life drawing, lectures, installations, history, culture, parties, beginners classes, advanced techniques, one-on-one expertise from Britain, Europe & some of the rest of the world's finest rope bondage experts.
This four day festival is not a fetish event although some aspects of rope bondage and indeed performances are fetishistic.
The aim of the London festival of the art of Japanese Bondage is to educate, illuminate, illustrate and provide the most friendly, safe and fun environment from which to quell your thirst and hone your skills for something a little bit out of the ordinary.
Festival starts Friday 2nd april thru Mon 5th 2010.

New Skin for the Old Ceremony
Resistance Presents a new exhibition of works from Espira and Kris Wlodarski
Thursday, September 17th 8pm
Espira and Kris Wlodarski, two of London's most visually provocative artists come together to present new paintings in their upcoming " New Skin for the Old Ceremony " exhibition.
Espira was born and raised within a religious Mormon family, training from an early age to become a Missionary. He slowly turned his back on the Religion to become a self-taught artist based in London.
Espira has become widely recognised for his powerful large scale paintings and digital illustrations. Showing a range of influences from the banal and everyday, high fashion, period costumes, raw meat, war images and ritualistic religious symbolism. The collision of visionary aesthetics and transgressive iconography within his work lure the spectator into a world which evokes an Apocalyptic and dangerous message. Often considered by many to be a savage and darkly humourous assault on contemporary culture.
Espira's strong body of artwork has been showcased across the globe, from traditional galleries to the legendary London fetish club Torture Garden. Fresh from a recent successful solo show in Paris he presents a collection of defiant new paintings to a London audience.
"Punk Rock for the Art world..."
- VOLTCASE MAGAZINE
"This evil grandchild of Vivienne Westwood tells us with brilliant paintings that era of overconsumption is over, muting in aestetics of Dyonisiac Eros & Thanatos inspired overdub."
-ENTREPART
Kris Wlodarski, aka Kali, born in Poland. Graduated at University of Zielona Gora, Poland (MA philosophy). Influenced by the art of Gottfried Helnwein, Saturno Butto, Joel Peter Witkin, Francis Bacon, the art of Shibari and modern Bodyart movements. He is also a musician, film-maker, and tattoo artist, currently living and working in London.
There is a haunting and otherworldly vision within his paintings. They are about the moments of insanity when the language and logic are suspended in favour of primal drives that are otherwise subject to suppression by cultural structures. Combining elements of fetishism and a sense of the absurd with intense passions and use of colour. He tempts you into a world populated by beautiful and unusual beings. They exist in a space that has a sense of immediacy and raging desire and yet they remain isolated, somewhere between this world and the next.
The opening night will feature a special live performance by Frank Sanazi :
"The man who puts The Fun Back In Fundamental Frank Sanazi, The Ubermeister of Lounge brings a NEW ORDER and discipline to the usually more relaxed swing scene.
He has embraced the modern idiom by singing about and reflecting on the world around him. As his music and style originate from his homeland he has preferred to call the whole movement 'Fatherlounge'.

"East Ends White Hot Space!"
"Akin to a mini ICA" and "East Ends White Hot Space" are just two of the many quotes from the British media about Resistance Gallery which has become a benchmark for us to maintain by keeping our events as interesting, ground breaking and accessible as we possibly can by working hard and collaborating with great people and cool new ideas.
It's just one short year ago that Resistance Gallery opened it's doors and subversive attitude to a multitude of fascinating underground sub-cultural artists, performances & alt club tribes.
"We operate in a challenging yet very atmospheric space made all the harder by the incredibly tough financial time everyone is facing at the moment.
The current financial crisis hasn't stopped our creativity or desire to provide the very best artistic events, it's just made it super difficult!
We hope that we can continue to go from strength to strength and build on what has already been an amazing first year."

Boris keep your promise!!!
Special event to raise awareness about the closing of rape centres & of lying politicians!
Here's what the Facebook page says:
Boris Johnson's pre-election campaign material made a great deal of his promise to pay for three new rape crisis centres and fund the existing centre for at least four years. There's now a distinct possibility that Boris will renege on his promise so this is a campaign to let him know that we'd like him to stand by his word.
Please consider yourself invited to our campaign launch night! It's a comedy cabaret night with added activism and is the first step in a long campaign to remind Boris that we were listening when he promised to support rape victims and we'd like him to KEEP HIS PROMISE!
This is the amazing line up has been arranged for your delectation and for FREE!
Josie Long (Perrier newcomer )
Fancy Chance, (Alternative Miss World)
Andrew O'Neill (Saxondale)
Miss Behave (Olivier Award Winning member of La Clique)
Amundsen and Slade's Sonic Sideshow
Lady Carol

We'll have a letter board called 'Stick it Boris' where we'll ask you to write a letter to Mr Johnson reminding him of his pledge and stick it up on the wall. You'll also be able to write to your local GLA representative asking them to petition the mayor themselves. We will provide you with paper, pens, templates, address info and then we'll put it in the post for you.
We're also asking people who can manage it to give £2 a month to the Croydon Rape Crisis Centre, standing order forms supplied!
Please come and show Boris how you feel on this issue. It's not too late to make him cough up.
